Tempest Swan is out for revenge. Billionaire Leonard Allred’s software program has put her out of a job. She makes a bet with a friend that she’ll get Leonard to take her on a date so she can get retribution, but a fortuitous accident with an adorable nerd might just derail her vengeance.

Leonard has reasons for hiding his identity from the public. It’s worked well for him so far, until he starts falling for the honest and witty Tempest. But how can he destroy their budding romance by admitting he’s actually the guy she hates?

Risk isn’t always the enemy. It can open the door to incredible gains.”

Isn’t that quite the understatement!

I’m so glad that I allowed myself the opportunity to take a chance to read and review this book. I have so much on my schedule these days. From real estate to PTA to summer survival with my children while my husband is away on military duty, I wasn’t sure how much more I could pack in to such an already demanding schedule, but the premise of this story called to me and I knew I needed to make the time to read this one.

This book was such a breath of fresh air that was incredibly adorable with its stubborn yet lovable heroine to the affable and quirky hero. Their missteps and overall failure to communicate with one another provide the perfect approach for the author’s incredibly unique voice and style to showcase this relatable love story. Alternating perspectives between Tempest and Leo allow the reader the special vantage point of knowing exactly what each is feeling, yet incapable of expressing to the other. Their timeless romantic clash is humorously captured with many laugh out loud moments that hilariously pay tribute to youthful hubris and romantic misunderstandings.

The story largely takes place over a six month period from Halloween to Valentine’s Day, so I would love to return to this story during the holiday season to fully embrace the atmosphere of the setting. But I will say that while we are currently in the throes of a strong summer heatwave, the heat between these two characters can be felt radiating off the pages as well! Their delicate dance between flirtation and frustration is on full display, teasing readers along the way with the lingering question of will they or won’t they, but either way, you’ll be swooning to the end.

I thoroughly enjoyed the love is a bet motif that was explored throughout the story. The narrative was rife with how love can be a fantastically frustrating risk, yet this story is a shining testament to taking chances. Having the courage to let go can open the door for wonderful things to happen!

Though we spend the majority of this tale in the middle of the love complications between these two headstrong people, the secondary characters have just as much personality, if not more so, and add so much to the unfolding shenanigans. Everyone is so brilliantly life-sized and jump off the page, making you feel that you are perhaps watching the movie version of this romantic comedy.

Many thanks to the author and Lone Star Book Blog Tours for providing me with a free ebook in exchange for my honest and thoughtful opinion.
