Top 5 Wednesday: Best Books on Characters I Used to Love, But Not Anymore

Greetings Fellow Book Dragons!

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme within the book community that was created by Lainey of GingerReadsLainey, but is now hosted by Sam of Thoughts on Tomes.  If you’re interested in participating, find out more on the Goodreads group.

This week’s topic is Characters You Used to Love but Don’t Anymore!  These are the characters that you used to adore, but now you don’t.  Maybe they changed a lot.  Maybe your outlook changed and now you can’t stand them.  Maybe you don’t even hate them, you’re just neutral about them when you used to run a fan blog about them.  Whatever the reasons, these characters just didn’t stand the test of time.

Want to find out who my Top 5 Wednesday characters I used to love are?

Here are my selections in no particular order:
Most of these are simply reflections of my opinions changing, and of course, the aging process.  I don’t have a lot to say about many of these except that for the most part while I used to adore these characters, time and reflection has changed my opinion and I’m not their #1 fans anymore.  I still like these books don’t get me wrong; however, I won’t be having conversations with random strangers about my obsessive love for them anymore!  My fan girl days are few and far between now and my tastes have become much more refined.

1.  Grandpa Joe from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

I urge you to check out Say No to Grandpa Joe to learn the truth!  Hahahaha!

2.  Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games series

I still like Katniss, but I’m not in love with her anymore.

3.  Claire and Henry from The Time Traveler’s Wife

When I first read this book in 2004, I was absolutely in love with these two.  Over 12 years removed and having no desire to reread this tome, I’m pretty confident that I’m no longer in love with their love these days.  It’s a good story, but again, not something that I will be screaming about from the rooftops anymore.

4.  Harriet from Harriet the Spy

Unpopular opinions time!  As a kid, I liked her and thought she was cool, but now, having reread this as an adult, I don’t like her attitude and would definitely expect way more out of her if she was my child.

5.  Four from the Divergent series

I used to LOVE this guy.  I couldn’t stop talking about him or the series, but again, time and other fandoms have drawn my attentions away and now he’s just “somebody that I used to know.”

So those were my short and sweet selections, but it was a lot of fun thinking about these old favorites.  What are some characters that you don’t love so much anymore?

So those are my picks for this week’s Top 5 Wednesday!  Do you have any past loves?  Let me know in the comments!
